My name is Dr Jessica Locker and I’m an Assistant Professor in the medical school at the University of Nottingham. I specialise in explaining complex topics in a way that’s clear and easy to understand, and I have a strong understanding of the university application process.
I hold a PhD in Synthetic Biology from the University of Nottingham. Before becoming a lecturer, I worked in pharmaceutical microbiology at the University of Manchester, as well as in several biology-focused companies. I offer useful insight for students considering careers in life sciences, medicine or biomedical research.
I have over 10 years' experience tutoring GCSE and A Level Biology across the AQA, OCR and Eduqas exam boards. I specialise in breaking down complex topics into clear, understandable explanations and helping students develop both their subject knowledge and exam confidence.
Many of my students have made significant progress, improving their grades and progressing to science-based degrees, including Medicine at the Universities of Oxford and Nottingham. I enjoy helping students discover confidence in Biology and supporting them to achieve their academic goals.
I also specialise in supporting students undertaking A Level resits, particularly those with high aspirations who did not achieve the grades they were hoping for first time around. Resit tuition focuses on identifying the reasons for lost marks, addressing gaps in understanding and developing a targeted plan to help students achieve the grades they need for their next steps.
I was tutored by Jess throughout my A levels and she played a large role in how well I did. She's great at teaching the most effectiev exam techniques whilst making sure the topics are interesting. She also has great resources that complement her teaching, making it easy to understand the difficult concepts
Jess has helped me immensely with A level Biology, she is really supportive and has boosted my confidence in a subject I struggle with.
