My name is Dr Jessica Locker and I’m a lecturer in Biomedical Science. I specialise in explaining complex topics in a way that’s clear and easy to understand, and I have a strong understanding of the university application process.
​
I hold a PhD in Synthetic Biology from the University of Nottingham. Before becoming a lecturer, I worked in pharmaceutical microbiology at the University of Manchester, as well as in several biology-focused companies. I offer useful insight for students considering careers in life sciences, medicine or biomedical research.
With over 8 years' experience tutoring AQA, OCR, and Eduqas A Level Biology, I support students to improve their grades and build confidence. Many have gone on to study science-based subjects, including Medicine at Oxford and Nottingham.

Each lesson follows a practical, question-led approach using tailored revision guides and booklets. We start with short diagnostic questions, then work through the topic in a Q&A style, focusing on understanding and applying knowledge, not just memorising facts.

I place strong emphasis on exam technique: recognising key command words, structuring answers, and practising past paper questions. Weekly homework and regular progress checks help students stay on track and aim for top grades.
I was tutored by Jess throughout my A levels and she played a large role in how well I did. She's great at teaching the most effectiev exam techniques whilst making sure the topics are interesting. She also has great resources that complement her teaching, making it easy to understand the difficult concepts
Jess has helped me immensely with A level Biology, she is really supportive and has boosted my confidence in a subject I struggle with. She gives clear explanations and makes difficult concepts understandable. My exam technique has significantly improved since starting sessions with Jess and I feel comfortable asking any questions I have.
